Original art by Caroline Sykora
Occupy Wall Street inspired countless artists to produce visionary collaborative projects, short art films, and sweeping documentaries capturing the spirit of the movement. On the first anniversary of the movement, Occupy the Film Festival, itself a collaborative project by grassroots mediamakers in New York City, brought together some of its most compelling and innovative films, from its roots in the Spanish Indignados, the Arab Spring, and American factory floor occupations, to the mini-societies that blossomed in public squares, to the post-encampment community organizing around home foreclosures, corporate regulation, labor and immigrant struggles, and student debt. The festival also featured posters, photographs, and occupied newspapers from around the country.
